SUMMARY

A Firefly Avionics systems engineer will be responsible for defining requirements, architecture, and implementation of avionics systems on launch vehicles and spacecraft. In this role you would represent the avionics team during vehicle-level trades, interfacing with other teams including propulsion and structures teams to determine requirements and integration. Additionally, you would be responsible for developing/coordinating development schedules, developing system level test and operations plans, and supporting launch day activities. Previous launch vehicle experience is not required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • High-level, functional design and development of avionics systems for the current and future launch vehicles, including, but not limited to Flight Termination Systems (FTS).
  • Writing and review of test procedures, test reports, installation procedures, and check-out procedures.
  • Coordinate systems level requirements for the launch vehicle with the Avionics team, and develop requirements at the subsystem/component level
  • Develop design, acquisition and test and verification plans, and coordinate with the rest of the Avionics team regarding execution
  • Track performance and recommend upgrades as needed
  • Support vehicle level integration, vehicle testing and launch operations
  • Coordinate with government approval agencies to define system requirements, obtain approvals for testing, and provide reports on system readiness for Launch

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent
  • 3+ years experience working with aerospace component development, testing, or operations
  • Experience with aerospace avionics system design, development, testing, or operations
  • Familiarity with flight termination systems and autonomous flight termination systems is preferred

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with Range Commanders Council 319 Flight Termination Systems Safety Requirements
  • Experience in working with government agencies to meet and document systems requirements
  • Experience with aerospace avionics system design, development, testing, or operations
  • Experience with project planning, subcontractor management, and other project management skills
  • Experience performing trade-studies and sensitivity studies to determine/select architecture options
  • Experience in industry standard root cause corrective analysis techniques, such as fault tree and fishbone analysis
  • Experience with flight termination systems and autonomous flight termination systems is preferred
  • Experience with project management is preferred
  • Experience with environmental analysis and test including thermal cycle, thermal vacuum, shock, and vibration
