This position will sit in our Environmental Test Lab in Leander, TX.
SUMMARY
The Environmental Test Engineer III is responsible for test and verification of the launch vehicle and spacecraft system components. In this role you will be an integral part of the Environmental Test Laboratory team in developing detailed test plans, designing test equipment, and managing the performance/execution of tests for product flight certifications.
The candidate must be a self-starter who works well in a team environment and has excellent interpersonal skills. The candidate will form an integral part of a team of engineers and technicians that will be a focal point for the company. The candidate will be expected to learn the testing processes, apply their knowledge, maintain good record-keeping and have good working relationships with team members.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead test planning, setup, and execution of launch vehicle/spacecraft component and system-level tests in the environmental test laboratory
- Partial ownership of writing and maintaining acceptance and qualification test procedures
- Review finalized test data and report packages, ensuring compliance with Firefly verification requirements
- Act as a subject matter expert for one environmental test laboratory area (thermal, thermal vacuum, vibration, shock)
- Lead root cause investigations of anomalies found during testing and document findings. Ensure corrective actions are executed and followed through.
- Drive test readiness reviews, post-test debriefs, and technical meetings
- Oversee testing, analyze data as testing goes on, provide concurrence to proceed through tests
- Support continuous improvement processes in the environmental test laboratory
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- This position will be training on first shift for up to 2 months, then will transition to second shift.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or another related STEM field
- 3+ years of related experience
- Strong experience with environmental test equipment including, but not limited to, thermal and thermal vacuum chambers, shaker tables, shock tables. Be a subject matter expert in one of these pieces of equipment
- Experience with failure investigations, root cause analysis, and non-conformance corrective action tracking
- Knowledge of one or more high-level general-purpose programming languages including but not limited to Python/C/LabView
- Strong experience/understanding of hardware/software interfaces and reading schematics
- Strong experience using standard lab test equipment, such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, and DMMs
- Strong experience with lab instrumentation, sensors, or DAQ systems
- Strong experience with writing test plans, test procedures, and test reports
- Ability to work independently with accelerated schedules
- Ability to troubleshoot and think outside of the box
- Strong documentation and communication skills
Desired
- LabView Programming skills
- 3-D modeling skills for fixture design
- Experience testing to MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461E, SMC-S-016, or other rigorous environmental testing and screening standards
- Negotiating compliance and conformance with external governing agencies
- Direct experience with range safety agencies
- Experience with designing test racks and rack enclosures
