ABOUT FIREFLY AEROSPACE

As an end-to-end responsive space company, Firefly Aerospace is on a mission to enable our world to launch, land, and operate in space – anywhere, anytime. Our small- to medium-lift launch vehicles, lunar landers, and orbital vehicles allow us to service the entire lifecycle of government and commercial missions from low Earth orbit to the Moon and beyond. We utilize carbon composite structures, patented propulsion technologies, and common components across our vehicles to iterate quickly, improve reliability, and deliver payloads at a lower cost.

SUMMARY

The Chief of Staff for Engineering will serve as a key partner to the VP of Engineering, helping the organization scale effectively as it grows. This role goes beyond documenting issues and requires taking ownership in solving them. With a mix of organizational and technical skills, including the ability to apply software and data tools, you will build systems, streamline workflows, and drive initiatives that improve execution across the engineering team. This is a unique opportunity to influence how a 300+ person engineering organization operates while contributing directly to the success of Firefly’s launch vehicles and spacecraft.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with the VP of Engineering to define, communicate, and track engineering strategy and roadmaps.
  • Create and maintain visibility into engineering goals, progress, risks, and dependencies across projects.
  • Forecast engineering staffing needs and help hiring managers build role definitions; partner with HR to ensure recruiting plans match roadmap needs.
  • Manage cross-functional initiatives, ensuring alignment among product, manufacturing, test, operations, and other teams.
  • Facilitate engineering leadership meetings — agendas, follow-ups, action items, status reporting.
  • Identify gaps or weaknesses across engineering operations, particularly where digital tools, data, and software can be leveraged, and directly implement solutions rather than only documenting problems.
  • Partner with technical leaders to streamline processes through automation, dashboards, and workflow improvements that materially improve execution speed and quality.
  • Prepare executive-level briefs and reports for leadership, highlighting wins, gaps, and recommendations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5–7+ years in engineering or technical operations roles, with experience coordinating large-scale projects or programs.
  • Proven ability to work across teams (engineering, product, operations) and communicate clearly at both technical and leadership levels.
  • Experience using software skills (data analysis, scripting, workflow automation, or equivalent) to translate insights into implemented solutions.
  • Track record of not just diagnosing organizational or operational challenges, but personally driving the initiatives that resolved them.

Desired

  • Background in high-technology, aerospace, or defense industries.
  • Prior experience in a Chief of Staff / Director of Program Operations / Engineering Program Management role.
  • Familiarity with tools for tracking roadmaps, dependencies, and engineering KPIs.
  • Demonstrated ability to help an organization scale process and people.

Firefly offers outstanding benefits for our employees, including generous health, dental and vision plans with low plan deductibles, parental leave, educational reimbursement, short term disability, and flexible PTO options.
