Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Technician to build complex precision electromechanical and optical instruments for high-performance applications. This role involves the assembly, alignment, and testing of intricate systems in clean, high-vacuum environments, using sheet metal and machined components, optical elements, and precision hardware. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in high-precision assembly, contamination control, and working to exacting engineering specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble complex electromechanical and optical subassemblies from precision-machined parts, sheet metal enclosures, optical elements, and specialized components.
- Work in cleanroom and high-vacuum assembly environments, following strict contamination control procedures.
- Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and optical schematics.
- Perform precision alignment and adjustment of optical and mechanical components using specialized fixtures, alignment tools, and metrology equipment.
- Apply proper cleaning, handling, and assembly techniques for optical surfaces, vacuum hardware, and ultra-high-vacuum (UHV) components.
- Install and seal vacuum hardware, including O-rings, CF flanges, and other vacuum interfaces, ensuring leak-tight performance.
- Use torque tools, precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators), and optical test equipment (e.g., autocollimators, interferometers).
- Conduct functional and leak testing of assemblies to verify performance against specifications.
- Maintain accurate build records, inspection reports, and cleanroom logs.
- Work closely with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to troubleshoot and resolve build or test issues.
- Adhere to all safety, cleanroom, and ESD handling protocols.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; advanced technical/vocational training or associate degree in mechanical, optical, or electromechanical technology preferred.
- 5+ years of precision assembly experience, including electromechanical or optical systems.
- Hands-on experience assembling components for cleanroom and/or high-vacuum applications.
- Proficiency with precision alignment tools, vacuum hardware, and contamination control methods.
- Ability to read complex engineering drawings and interpret GD&T specifications.
- Strong understanding of mechanical tolerances, optical alignment, and precision fastening techniques.
- Familiarity with ISO Class cleanroom practices and ESD controls.
- Excellent attention to detail, documentation, and quality standards.
Preferred:
- Experience in aerospace, semiconductor, analytical instrumentation, or scientific equipment manufacturing.
- Knowledge of ultra-high-vacuum (UHV) systems, leak detection, and helium mass spectrometer leak testing.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for work order management.
- Experience with laser alignment, interferometry, or other optical metrology methods.
