Position Overview
The Safety Director is responsible for offering strategic leadership, technical expertise, and compliance oversight while fostering innovative approaches within an organization committed to proactive management and ongoing improvement. The Central Operating company specializes in hot mix, asphalt paving, heavy construction, and aggregates and has operations throughout Central Texas. A key aspect of this position is its close partnership with upper management, ensuring that strategic decisions are aligned with day-to-day operations. By maintaining open communication channels between leadership and site teams, the company effectively addresses challenges in real time, fosters a culture of accountability, and reinforces safety practices on the ground. These collaborative efforts are essential for meeting project goals and sustaining a safe work environment throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Provide comprehensive support for auditing fixed locations and road construction teams, ensuring the prompt resolution of identified action items.
- Assist in the investigation of incidents at fixed sites and on roadways by documenting all accidents, safety violations, injuries, and unsafe conditions or activities to determine root causes and facilitate the development of preventative strategies.
- Coordinate closely with the Risk Management group to identify, assess, and mitigate potential liabilities, ensuring comprehensive risk controls are integrated into all safety initiatives.
- Lead event learning teams composed of frontline personnel following major incidents to devise effective prevention measures.
- Actively participate in safety committee meetings, offering informed insights and resources relevant to committee issues and corrective actions.
- Maintain current knowledge of evolving safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Ensure compliance with external agencies, including OSHA, MSHA, TXDOT, and FMCSA as required.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend suitable control measures.
- Evaluate employee training needs in accordance with job requirements and industry standards; design and implement impactful safety training programs for personnel at all organizational levels.
- Develop engaging training materials such as presentations, handouts, and online learning modules.
- Monitor and assess safety performance metrics to inform continuous improvement efforts.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance a strong culture of safety and sustainability.
- Supervise and direct the activities of safety managers, safety representatives, and registered nursing staff.
- Willingness to travel overnight up to 15%.
Education/Experience
- At least 5 years of managerial experience with a company of 500 or more employees.
- Thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company regulations.
Work Requirements
Must have a valid, state issued driver’s license.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements

- Understands and is familiar with OSHA, MSHA, TXDOT, and FMCSA

- Able to use resources effectively and efficiently and arrange information in a useful manner.
- Be able to be a strong voice in bringing the company’s slogan of SEE, STOP, DO to the forefront.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills
- Experience in the construction industry
- CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, CSHO General Industry and Construction
- Work Zone Traffic Control and Train the Trainer Flagger certification
- OSHA Authorized Trainer 10 and 30 Hour (General and Construction)
- Smith System Certified Trainer
Physical Requirements

- Able to communicate with others by email, telephone and in person.
- Knowledge in MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint and Outlook for email communication and preparation of document and presentations.
- Intermittent climbing, bending, squatting, kneeling are required.
- Periodic, but extensive walking and standing required.
- Must also be able to drive a vehicle and walk uneven terrain.
- May require periodically lifting objects up to 40 lbs.
Work Environment
- May be exposed to extreme hot, cold, and wet weather.
