$39.73 per hour Minimum Starting Base Pay* + KPI Bonuses + Competitive Benefits
Qualifications may warrant greater starting base pay within the full pay range. Individual base pay is determined by experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training.
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for performing duties required in the operation, maintenance, construction and repair of transmission and distribution systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate mastery and continue duties of Apprentice 1, 2, 3 and 4
- Construct and maintain overhead and underground electric lines and equipment
- Inspect existing primary and secondary power lines and substation equipment
- Correct and/or report problems and observed hazards
- Maintain and operate vehicles and equipment
- Investigate trouble on lines and locate cause of power outages
- Maintain and service, including cleaning and repairing, all tools and equipment
- Perform rubber glove work on energized lines from aerial device
- Work on de-energized or grounded lines or equipment, both from the pole or an aerial device
- Participate in and successfully complete scheduled training
- Assist in the training of others
- Demonstrate diligence in learning and adhering to safety regulations
- Collect delinquent accounts
- Must be available for and participate in Call-Out duty
- Must be available to work various shifts
- Responsible for construction and maintenance of overhead and underground lines
- Maintain construction standards and acceptable specifications
- Lead and/or monitor job briefings and tail board meetings
- Approve purchasing invoices, work orders and focus on efficiency and cost controls
- Maintain a safe and reliable system for members and the general public
- Maintain and promote a safe work environment for employees
- Manage construction project completion
- Participate in emergency restoration and call-out duty
- Update the UC mapping system
- Participate in the process for damage claims
- Resolve customer complaints and answer customers' questions
- Provide employees with guidance in handling difficult or complex problems and in resolving escalated complaints or disputes
- Implement corporate and departmental policies, procedures and service standards in conjunction with management
- Discuss job performance problems with supervisor to identify causes and issues and work to resolve problems
- Teach and instruct employees in job duties and company policies Instruct and supervise subordinates in the absence of the Construction/Service Supervisor
- Interpret and communicate work procedures and company policies to staff
- Develop and review operating procedures
- Establish work priorities and activities
- Coordinate activities with other departments
- Conduct and participate in safety meetings
- Stay abreast of advances in technology
Supervisory and/or Leadership Responsibilities:
A range of leadership activities, training, effectively communicating organizational policies and other information to subordinates, and ensuring that employees have a clear understanding of their responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of business and management principles including strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques and budgeting
- Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs, entering data or processing information
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
- Knowledge of principles of electricity, safety practices and codes
- Knowledge of electric power industry construction standards
- Knowledge of voltage testing equipment
- Skilled in monitoring and managing performance
- Skilled in establishing and communicating performance expectations and metrics
- Skilled in time management
- Skilled in prioritizing and managing changing priorities
- Skilled in anticipating, identifying, analyzing and resolving conflict and problems
- Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor to assigned apprentice
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to listen and understand information verbally and in writing
- Ability to teach employees to set up and disseminate information from various types of voltage testing equipment
- Ability to train and teach employees the art of troubleshooting and the safe, timely manner of power restoration; including substation, distribution lines and residential lines
Minimum Qualifications – (Education, Experience, Certification, & Licensure):
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of DOL program requirements for Journeyworker
- Valid Texas Class A CDL
