Job Summary

The Designer is part of a design team that is responsible for concepting and sketching the designs for seasonal launches, creating boards and decks that serve as inspiration and direction across the organization, and providing support for initiatives. Maintains the James Avery brand aesthetic and continuity, while appealing to today’s customer. The Designer will take direction from the VP of Merchandising and Design and Senior Designers, but will also be responsible for research and concept exploration and presenting new ideas around trends, design and innovation.

*Remote opportunity - must reside in proximity to Austin, TX or surrounding areas.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Contributes to the creation of seasonal launches as follows:

  • by independently developing design solutions to satisfy the line plan and communicating the new design concepts through finished and accurate sketches or renderings.
  • through work researching, as well as creating decks, trend and mood boards, and presentations.
  • partners with other team members (Designer/Prototype Makers and Technical Designer/Prototype Makers) to reach ever-better design solutions in design prototyping.
  • building partnerships and collaborating with other departments on design projects.
  • through close collaboration with VP of Merchandising and Design to review design ideas, prototypes of their designs, artistic/creative direction, and progress.
  • by incorporating new methods and/or materials to improve design, quality, effectiveness, and efficiency in their projects.
  • by providing support for initiatives.
  • helps assist and provide guidance to Associate Designers with various projects.

WHAT IS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Design, Jewelry-Making, Fine Arts, Illustration or related field; or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • 5 years’ experience in jewelry design.
  • Effectively and efficiently communicate and present design intent with exceptional sketches.
  • High creativity with a proven track record in the Jewelry/Fashion/Accessories industry in product conceptualization and design.
  • Detail-oriented with a discerning eye.
  • Fashion conscious with a strong sense to identify and adapt trends for James Avery.
  • Demonstrated experience and elevated taste level reflected in all work including concepting, design, board building, styling, and vision casting.
  • Experience creating tech packs with thorough, accurate, and clear direction on specs and construction of designs.
  • Ability to travel to various work and event locations as business need requires.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understanding of how to build prototypes on the bench.
  • Understanding of CAD programs such as Rhino, ZBrush or similar programs.
