Job Purpose

The Technician, LV Wire Harness is responsible for assembling, testing, and inspecting low-voltage wiring harnesses and cable assemblies to support generator production. This role ensures all builds meet defined electrical, mechanical, and quality standards while supporting both prototype and full-scale manufacturing. The technician contributes to efficient, high-quality production by following detailed work instructions, maintaining traceability, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and improve processes.

Duties and Responsibilities

Wiring Harness Assembly

  • Assemble low-voltage wiring harnesses using drawings, schematics, and work instructions
  • Cut, strip, crimp, splice, and terminate wires using approved tools and methods
  • Install connectors, terminals, boots, heat shrink, grommets, and labels per specifications
  • Route and bundle wiring using loom, braid, sleeving, clamps, and tie wraps following best practices
  • Support integration of harnesses into genset subassemblies as needed

Electrical & Quality Verification

  • Perform continuity, polarity, and basic functional testing on completed harnesses
  • Inspect crimps, terminals, pin retention, and insulation for quality and compliance
  • Verify wire colors, gauges, lengths, and connector orientation
  • Document defects and collaborate with quality teams to resolve nonconformances

Process & Documentation

  • Execute builds using job travelers, schematics, harness drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs)
  • Maintain component traceability and serial number tracking as required
  • Follow revision-controlled documentation and support engineering change orders (ECOs)
  • Provide feedback to engineering on design improvements, simplification, and tooling needs

Tooling & Workspace Maintenance

  • Operate hand and power tools, including crimpers, wire strippers, heat guns, torque drivers, and pin extractors
  • Follow ESD protection practices when handling sensitive components
  • Maintain organized, 5S-compliant workstations
  • Perform basic tool maintenance and calibration checks

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with engineering, quality, and test teams to resolve build issues
  • Support pilot builds, new product introduction (NPI), and prototype development
  • Assist in training and mentoring team members as needed

Qualifications include:

  • Education, Experience and Certifications
    • 1–3 years of hands-on wiring or electrical assembly experience (automotive, aerospace, EV, industrial equipment, or similar)
    • Experience with generator sets, industrial equipment, or mobile power systems
    • Experience in pilot production, new product introduction (NPI), or R&D environments
    • IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification (Class 2 or Class 3) preferred
    • Basic soldering experience
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, pinouts, and cable lists
    • Proficiency in crimping, stripping, terminal installation, and wire routing
    • Familiarity with low-voltage wiring harness design and manufacturing
    • Experience using electrical test equipment (e.g., multimeter, continuity tester)
    • Strong attention to detail and quality-focused mindset
    • Ability to follow structured processes, work instructions, and documentation
    • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
    • Effective communication and teamwork abilities
    • Adaptability in a fast-paced production environment
    • Understanding of Lean manufacturing and 5S principles
    • Commitment to safety and quality standards

Role Classification and Working Conditions

This is an hourly, non-exempt-level position. This position typically works in a production/assembly/engineering lab environment. Overtime may be required.

  • Repetitive motions requiring manual dexterity and controlled tool use
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Ability to work overtime as needed based on production schedules
