As a Fabrication/Finishing Tech, you will perform skilled fabrication, finishing, and coating work across the full build process—from raw material to final finish. Responsibilities include sheet metal forming, spot welding, assembly, gasket installation, and industrial painting, executed per engineering drawings and NOV quality, HSE, and customer standards. This cross-functional position supports Cedar Park’s integrated fabrication, assembly, and paint operations. Onsite work.

What is the Job Like?

Primary Responsibilities

  • Fabrication & Fab-Assembly Operations
  • Lay out, position, and form sheet metal using Press Brake, CNC Laser Cutter, Shear, Drill Press, Band Saw, Water Jet, and other shop tools.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to determine layout, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Fit, bolt, clamp, and/or tack-weld parts together for final welds or assemblies.
  • Set up and operate CNC and robotic equipment (Laser, Press Brake, Robot Welder) to achieve precise part geometry.
  • Assemble sheet metal components using gaskets, hardware, and mechanical fasteners per work instructions.
  • Verify tolerances and dimensions using calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Welding, Grinding & Finishing
  • Perform MIG, TIG, and spot welding to assemble sheet metal structures.
  • Grind, sand, and polish welds and surfaces to required finishes; inspect for defects and perform rework as needed.
  • Apply sealants, fillers, and surface prep materials to meet finish specifications.
  • Cut and install gaskets for enclosures and mechanical assemblies.
  • Painting & Surface Coating
  • Prepare surfaces by cleaning, masking, sanding, or blasting as required.
  • Mix and apply primers, coatings, and topcoats using spray equipment per NOV standards.
  • Maintain paint booths, spray guns, and related equipment; handle waste safely per HSE guidance.
  • Inspect painted finishes for color, coverage, and texture; perform touch-ups as necessary.
  • Apply stencils, decals, and customer identification per traveler instructions.
  • Quality, Safety & Documentation
  • Maintain accurate travelers, work orders, and inspection documentation.
  • Follow all 5S and Lean Manufacturing practices to sustain an organized, safe work area.
  • Identify and report nonconformances; assist with root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Exercise Stop Work Authority for any unsafe or noncompliant condition.
  • Support continuous improvement and NOV’s zero-incident culture through proactive safety engagement.
  • Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.
  • Comply with all NOV Company and HSE policies and procedures.

Who will be Successful at this Job?

Required Education & Experience Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with strong mechanical and math aptitude.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in manufacturing and/or fabrication.
  • Experience in surface prep, painting, and mechanical assembly of sheet metal components.
  • Proficiency with measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, tape measure).
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, tolerances, and material specifications.
  • Must be able to pass background check and drug screening
  • Able to perform physically demanding work—standing, bending, lifting 25 lbs. regularly
  • Positive attitude, reliable, and a team player
  • Demonstrate ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work safely in a team environment.
