Job Description

Recruiting an Industrial Engineer Intern at NOV in Cedar Park, Texas. The Intern will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic multi-product manufacturing environment and focus on applying principles from The House of Lean Manufacturing. Additionally, the Intern will work closely with our engineering team and manufacturing personnel to support various projects aimed at standardizing, tracking progress, supporting Kaizen events, and making hands-on improvements while reducing waste. May - August 2024

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Create Standard Work: Develop standardized work instructions, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistency and easy transfer of knowledge. Observe operations and gather feedback to develop actionable recommendations. Train personnel on new standards and provide ongoing support to ensure adherence.
  2. Data Tracking: Interpret data and use insights to monitor progress, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions for further improvement.
  3. Engage Manufacturing Personnel: Foster a culture of continuous improvement by involving personnel in problem-solving and decision-making processes. Work closely with production teams to understand their needs, challenges, and ideas for improvement.
  4. Provide Support for Process Improvement Activities: Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of Kaizen events aimed at driving rapid improvement in specific areas of the manufacturing process. Participating as a co-lead in facilitation, training, guiding teams, and implementing hands-on changes.
  5. Implement Lean Manufacturing Practices: Apply Lean principles such as 5S and process mapping to streamline processes and eliminate waste. Develop and implement repeatable processes to support sustainability and teamwork.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate and engage with diverse groups of manufacturing personnel
  • Knowledge or exposure to Lean Manufacturing principles and methodologies
  • Ability to create standards, standard work, and visual management tools to support process improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated passion for making improvements and driving positive change in manufacturing environments
  • Analytical skills and interpret data to drive decision-making
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Excel for data analysis and/or familiarity with other analysis tools
  • Open-minded and receptive to feedback, with a commitment to ongoing improvement and development
