If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Avionics Hardware Design group as an entry-level FPGA Firmware Engineer!

The Avionics hardware design group is responsible for the design of high-reliability avionics systems for Firefly launch vehicles and spacecraft. As an FPGA Firmware Engineer, you will work in a small collaborative group through all stages of the launch vehicle and spacecraft design.

As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for developing high-reliability avionics systems for Firefly launch vehicles and spacecraft. You'll have the chance to work on all stages of the launch vehicle and spacecraft design, from system architecture and design to sub-system integration and test support.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop RTL in Verilog/SystemVerilog
  • Integrate RTL designs with the Linux kernel
  • Create flight-quality images for Xilinx and Microchip devices
  • Test and debug designs on hardware to ensure they meet project requirements
  • Support other aspects of SoC development such as architecture, design, analysis, and test
  • Create associated design documentation, including requirements, verification plans, reports, etc.
  • Develop infrastructure scripts for build and test

Collaborate with a firmware design team in an Agile project management workflow

To excel in this role, you'll need to have a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or equivalent, and at least 1 year of experience working with FPGAs or SoCs. You should also have a passion for space and enjoy solving complex problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Ability to work in a team-based environment
  • Passion for problem-solving and working with new hardware
  • 1+ years of experience with environments testing, or unit level testing (academic projects and internship experience qualify)
  • 1+ years of experience working with FPGAs or SoCs (academic projects and internship experience qualify)
  • Creative problem solver that can bring multiple disciplines together

Desired

  • Experience with electronic components, wire harnesses, and/or electrical test equipment
  • Experience in circuit (analog, digital, mixed signal) design principles
  • Experience with engineering projects in any one or more of the following areas
    • CPU/FPGA/ circuit boards
    • High speed interfaces
    • Low power platforms
  • Experience with Altium Designer
  • Experience with tools such as
    • Xilinx Vivado, Microchip Libero, or equivalent
    • MATLAB
    • LabVIEW
    • Python
    • SPICE
  • Experience with embedded Linux
  • Experience with embedded microcontroller systems
  • Experience with C/C++ in embedded systems
  • Experience with serial interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, Ethernet
  • General understanding of how environments affect the reliability of space hardware
  • Self-motivated with strong multi-tasking, organizational, communication and documentation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills (examples: leading a student organization or working successfully in teams)
