SUMMARY

Firefly seeks a highly talented Propulsion Analysis Engineer experienced in writing software to join our growing analysis team. As a Propulsion Analyst you will use your expert knowledge in software development to build and improve Firefly’s in-house software tools. This role will play a key part in this group by leading to the overall development of the propulsion simulation infrastructure. Propulsion analysts are involved throughout the engineering process and therefore require excellent interdisciplinary communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with multi-disciplinary propulsion and systems engineering teams to gather requirements, profile, and develop the software tools needed to evaluate vehicle performance.
  • Responsible for data reduction activities with an emphasis on automating several portions of this workflow.
  • Develop well documented codes or procedures for performing thermal and fluid analyses, and postprocessing test results.
  • Responsible for updating and correlating models based on test and flight data.
  • Responsible for reviewing the analyses of peers and mentor less experienced engineers.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • BS degree in computer science or related field and 3+ years of industry experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with at least one compiled computer language (preferably FORTRAN or C/C++) and one interpreted language (preferably Python or MATLAB).
  • 2+ years of experience in web applications development
  • Experience in developing and maintaining databases
  • Deep understanding of testing, continuous integration, build, deployment & continuous monitoring
  • Familiarity with modeling in both Unix and Windows environments, as well as with source code control systems such as Bitbucket.

Desired

  • MS/PhD degree in computer science and/or 5+ years of industry experience.
  • Expertise writing software in languages like Python, Go, JavaScript, Typescript
  • Expertise with Linux, Docker, Kubernetes
  • Experience with build systems (Make, Bazel / Pants / Buck, Gradle) and package management tools (pip, npm)
  • Experience scaling web applications and optimizing applications for performance
  • Solid understanding of UI/UX design to provide intuitive applications
