The Position


The Community Events Coordinator leads the planning and execution of Citywide events and recreational programs that support community engagement and quality of life. This position manages event operations, budgets, and partnerships to ensure efficient, high-impact service delivery. Reporting to the Recreation Manager, the role supports departmental objectives and broader City operations through strategic coordination and program oversight.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plans, directs and coordinates community events and recreational activities for all age groups across departmental facilities, including recreation centers, parks, and trails;
  • Oversees all customer service functions related to events, including registrations, surveys, and communications;
  • Evaluates event performance and provides recommendations for continuous improvement;
  • Develops, implements, and updates departmental policies and procedures to enhance operational effectiveness;
  • Creates and manages sponsorship packages to support and expand event offerings;
  • Collaborates with internal divisions to produce marketing and promotional materials, including brochures, newsletters, website content and flyers.
  • Prepares and manages event budgets, including expense and revenue projections;
  • Prepares reports, including purchasing and monthly productivity reports and others as requested;
  • Monitors and analyzes trends in events and implements changes to event plans to ensure excellent experiences for all;
  • Communicates event requirements to internal staff and external vendors, including security, catering, and technical services

  • Manages special use permit requests for park events by outside organizations
  • Assists with the coordination and administration of the pavilion reservation program;
  • Recruits, trains, schedules, and supervises part-time recreation staff .
  • Coordinates and conducts special projects and programs as assigned;
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned

Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Event Management or a closely related field, plus
  • At least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in the supervision, operation and management of events and facilities, or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Knowledge of event planning, recreation programming, budgeting, and applicable regulations
  • Skill in project coordination, communication, and relationship-building with staff, vendors, and the public
  • Skill in analyzing data and supervising part-time staff
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, solve problems, and exercise sound judgment in fast-paced settings
  • Ability to interpret policies and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
