Now Hiring: SWIM INSTRUCTORS to support our aquatics swim lessons program

The Position

  • Ensures a safe environment for the students in the swim lesson program;
  • Plans, organizes and leads program activities;
  • Develops daily lesson plans;
  • Sets up equipment for scheduled activities;
  • Ensures that all policies, rules, and regulations are observed and that no safety hazard is created;
  • Instructs various levels of classes, Infant to thirteen years old;
  • Instructs swim lessons in accordance with the Cities standards;
  • Instructs all lessons with safety and the students' self-esteem foremost in mind;
  • Ability to verbally communicate with patron, public and staff effectively;
  • Maintains skill accomplishment records for every class and of every student;
  • Discusses students' progress with parents;
  • Maintains all swim lesson equipment;
  • Cleans program areas after completion of activities and at end of work day;
  • Attends scheduled in-service trainings;
  • Demonstrates cooperative behavior with team, supervisor and the public.
  • Be willing to substitute for others and performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses

Must be at least 16 years of age by May 1, 2026.
Candidates must be knowledgeable and be able to swim: Breaststroke, Butterfly, Freestyle (front crawl), Backstroke, Sidestroke and Elementary Backstroke.
During the summer months, must be able to work mornings/mid-day (8:30 am - 1:00 pm) and afternoons/early evenings (3:30 pm - 7:00 pm), Monday through Thursday with an occasional Friday.

Supplemental Information

Knowledge of: current swimming techniques

Skill/Ability to: perform current swimming techniques and the ability to teach these skills to children, establish and maintain effective working relationships and rapport with employees, supervisor, and the general public, to learn equipment and supply use and care, provide guidance and instruction, communicate activity objectives, programs and information and directions, conduct activities following established rules, guidelines, retain and use safety rules and department guidelines, evaluate program activities verbally and in writing, plan, organize, motivate, lead, and promote recreational activities for different age groups with diverse interests and varying skill levels, conduct games and activities following established rules and guidelines, handle requests, inquiries, and complaints in a cooperative and constructive manner, work outdoors and under a variety of weather conditions and to work irregular hours. Ability to frequently swim, walk, and sit when leading various activities, Candidates must be knowledgeable and be able to swim: Breaststroke, Butterfly, Freestyle (front crawl), Backstroke, Sidestroke and Elementary Backstroke.
