The City of Cedar Park is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Treatment Operator II. The Treatment Operator operates and maintains the water reclamation facility in compliance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) permit requirements. Reporting to the Water Reclamation Facility Superintendent, responsibilities include performing tests on pumps, motors, maintaining logs, and performing preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment, and reporting on water reclamation facility conditions.ABOUT CEDAR PARK

The Position

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Operates and maintains the city water reclamation facilities as required by city, state, and federal guidelines.
- Performs routine inspections of water reclamation facilities, monitors pumps, tanks, chemicals, filters, and odor control units, and adjusts equipment or chemicals to maintain specified operating conditions.
- Collects periodic water samples from various locations within the facility and performs numerous chemical analyses, including pH, alkalinity, chlorine, turbidity, phosphorous, total suspended solids, nitrogen, dissolved oxygen, etc., and ensures proper calibration of measuring equipment.
- Calculates various daily, weekly, and monthly chemical usage and water statistics, records data on logs and charts, and maintains records of water reclamation facility operations.
- Ensures cleanliness of wastewater facilities; cleans equipment as necessary; and assists in grounds-keeping.
- Performs corrective and preventive maintenance on water reclamation equipment, including pumps, motors, valves, plumbing, gauges, gears, etc. as needed.
- Required to operate a backhoe, front loader, sludge press, and laboratory equipment.
- Works rotating shifts and weekends and maintains 24-hour on-call status to cover shifts as needed.
- Operates backhoe and other heavy equipment; and
- Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
- This role is a city safety sensitive or DOT role that will require random drug screening.
Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses

Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or its equivalent, plus four (4) years of experience in water treatment operations
or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certification & License
Valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
Class A or B Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Methods, practices, and equipment used in water treatment facilities.
- Knowledge of plumbing, welding.
- Knowledge of how to handle hazardous materials, minor electrical repair; basic chemistry; pumps and motors.
- Knowledge of water chemical analyzing equipment.
- Knowledge of city, state, and federal water treatment specifications and regulations.
- Knowledge of laboratory testing and procedures.
- knowledge of the safe use of electrical control systems, proper use and analysis of laboratory equipment used in the performance and monitoring of water treatment facility and water quality.
Skill/Ability to:
- Able to learn and comply with state and federal regulations applicable to water treatment facilities.
- Able to perform simple mathematical calculations.
- Able to operate personal computer and computerized equipment.
- Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers.
- Able to demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication.
- Skilled in operating and repairing water treatment equipment.
Work Conditions
Physical Demand
- This position must be able to be scheduled for on-call rotation to respond to emergencies and after-hour repair needs.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and drag and pull up to 100 lbs.
- Able to sit for periods of time driving to various sites
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, squat, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell.
