The Position

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Communications & Engagement, the Multimedia Specialist will assist in producing and maintaining various multimedia projects based on various city departmental priorities and needs. The Multimedia Specialist will produce and edit video, motion graphics, photographic, audio and other content as directed for use on the city’s cable television Public Education and Government (PEG) channel, websites and social media platforms as promotional outlets - projecting the values and goals, and a positive image of the organization. The Multimedia Specialist will assist other departments with general A/V software, graphic, and technological support; and may serve in a back-up/assistant capacity to the public information officer role of the Media & Communications Manager.

  • Performs official city photographer and videographer, taking digital photographs and video and audio recordings of city meetings, events and activities; edit and prepare recorded photographic, video and audio content for use across social media, web radio and television platforms using non-linear editing and motion and still graphics programs to produce news packages, public service announcements, departmental and seasonal videos, video and audio advertisements, provides select photos categorization along with appropriate tagging for search and ADA compliance;
  • Performs script writing, pre-production planning, studio/ field videography and post-production video editing;
  • Maintains the city’s cable channel and YouTube Channel programming; posts photographic and video content to city’s social media channels; assists with the posting of video and web content by or for other departments; maintain the city’s online photo feed/albums; organizes and maintains the city’s photos and videos storage;
  • Maintains display of agenda and staff presentations during City Council meetings; records, bookmarks, streams, archives and schedules replay video of public meetings onto web and cable television PEG channels;
  • Assists with the branding/marketing of the city through an integrated marketing communications approach, which includes strategic planning, implementation and evaluation of city-wide branding guidelines;
  • Assists Communications& Engagement staff with graphic design needs for publications; with supervisor guidance, assists in the execution of social media campaigns and postings, and monitors and may assist in responding to comments via the City’s social media channels; assists in maintaining the website public meetings calendar and web posting of public meeting agendas; serves as a content editor, ensuring all content meets style guidelines, is accurate and contains correct grammar, punctuation and spelling;
  • Proactively searches for and assists in implementing technological and efficiency improvements or enhancements to cable television PEG channel, city applications and communications technologies, staff presentations and information-sharing; Provides technical guidance and assistance to City departments and staff for their audio-visual, web and basic technology needs;
  • Participates in meetings; contributes to team effort by performing other related duties as may be assigned; assists other staff members with various tasks as needed or assigned;
  • Maintains the city’s audio/ visual equipment and ensures that it is in proper running order;
  • Available to work evenings, weekends, city events and/or holidays as needed for program operations; and
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned or directed.

Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Radio-TV-Film or related field, and
At least three (3) years of experience as a Multimedia Specialist or similar position, or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License, with acceptable driving record.
Preferred: Drone Certified FAA 107
