Under the direction of the Recreation Manager - Programs, the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for the direction, planning, organization, supervision and scheduling of assigned programs which may include nature based programs; multi-generational programs; senior programs; athletics programs; arts programs; therapeutic recreation programs; fitness programs; or STEM programs. Work also includes, but is not limited to, developing and maintaining community volunteer programs, managing vendors, ensuring safety, overseeing and managing assigned staff schedules programs and special events.
The Position

- Maintains accurate records of program revenues, attendance and operating costs;
- Oversees the development, scheduling and implementation of recreation programs;
- Manages and develops events, tournaments, and special projects as assigned;
- Works with associated divisions and departments to promote and advertise programs and events;
- Develops and updates recreation facility rules, policies and procedure and publishes associated materials and manuals;
- Regularly evaluate fees for fee-based programs and provide recommendations for adjustments through program planning and cost recovery processes;
- Responsible for adding programs into recreation registration software and program guide;
- Works with community organizations and contracted instructors in planning and organizing recreation;
- Assists the Recreation Manager in supporting the development of the budget and manages the division budget within the department;
- Assists the Recreation Manager with developing short- and long-term goals, objectives and operating procedures for the recreation division;
- Issues and processes purchase orders for equipment purchases and approves purchases up to $3,000 without approval from supervisor;
- Performs regular inventory of equipment and supplies;
- Develops and updates multi-generational programs that build partnerships and works across multiple City departments;
- Works closely with the public and community organizations included developing contracts and partnerships;
- Works evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary to support programs, leagues and other special events;
- Coordinates and conducts special projects and programs as assigned;
- Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses

• Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation administration, Physical Education, Sport Management, or a closely related degree;
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in the supervision, operation, and management of recreation facilities and programs; or,
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Supplemental Information

• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with diverse audiences.
• Interpret and apply laws, regulations, and internal procedures.
• Advertise and market recreation offerings to drive awareness and participation.
• Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings, with varying weather conditions.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
• May lift up to 50 pounds of equipment or materials.
• Involves setup and takedown of program or event equipment.
• May be exposed to loud noise and large crowds during events.
• Requires use of standard office equipment and recreation tools.
• Schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
