Recreation Assistant - Kid's Zone

Provides short term supervision for children, age 6 months to 7 years, of parents utilizing the Cedar Park Recreation Center. Duties include providing a fun, safe, play area by planning and leading activities, and ensuring the cleanliness of the Kid's Zone.

The Position

  • Leads age appropriate activities for young children of parents utilizing the Cedar Park Recreation Center;
  • Plans and implements age appropriate activities;
  • Maintains and organizes materials and supplies;
  • Cleans and sanitizes play area, and handles all contact with bodily fluids in compliance with safe handling guidelines;
  • Completes general cleaning such as; vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, windows, and taking out trash;
  • Maintains constant awareness of children in the Kid's Zone, including any special needs or parent provided instructions.
  • Understands and complies with established state and city guidelines, policies, and procedures including age appropriate discipline management techniques;
  • Attends staff meetings and training, when applicable;
  • Reports problems to management in a timely manner, as needed;
  • Takes reservations for Kid's Zone, obtains parent information, and maintains and files records of attendance, including sign-in and sign-out sheets;
  • Establishes and maintains positive public relations with members and parents;
  • Works varying hours including a morning shift, evening shift, and some holidays, when needed;
  • Provides cross-training support with recreation center front desk operations and serves as a backup as needed to ensure continuous front desk coverage and customer service;
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses

High School Diploma or GED equivalent; and
6 months of experience in direct child supervision; or a valid Child Care certification and six months of related experience;

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be able to work morning hours with possible evenings, weekends and holidays as needed for operations.
Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs.
Must possess a current CPR and First Aid certificate or ability to obtain within one month of hire.

Supplemental Information

Knowledge of: basic childcare management guidelines, safety standards and acceptable discipline management techniques.

Skill/Ability to: Interact well with children, maintain accurate records, speak and work well with the public, give and follow instructions, and direct children in activities. able to lift 30lbs;

WORK HOURS - Work hours vary - morning shift, evening shift, and some holidays, when needed.
