The City of Cedar Park is seeking qualified candidates for the Utility Operator I/II/III to perform essential duties in operating and maintaining the Cities Water Distribution System. Under the direction of the Foreman, performs duties essential to operate and maintain city's water distribution and/or wastewater collection system, including making water and sewer taps, installing and replacing water meters and valves, repairing water and sewer leaks, installing clean outs, and performing preventive and corrective maintenance on water and sewer lines.ABOUT CEDAR PARK

Work Examples
- Makes water and sewer taps for new services;
- Repairs water and sewer leaks, including digging holes and trenches, using backhoes and other equipment, and placing necessary shoring;
- Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on water and sewer lines, including unclogging lines using hydrojets, routers, and hand tools, light and heavy equipment, exercising and/or replacing valves, repairing lift station pumps, entering confined spaces, and testing for low water pressure;
- Performs utility line locates;
- Performs leak site dress-ups by pouring sandy loam over affected area;
- Runs new main feeders and service lines;
- Reads and maintains various flow meters, water interconnects, meters/gauges at lift stations, water booster stations, and other utility appurtenances;
- Maintains grounds at field operations, lift stations, booster stations, plants and other facilities;
- Performs chlorine tests on new lines;
- Operates valve-turning equipment;
- Maintains fire hydrants and air release valves; and
- Performs such other related duties as may be required.
Other Important Duties
- May clear brush and trees, remove animal carcasses from city streets, and place barricades at low water crossing during heavy rains; and
- Is subject to the “On-Call” staffing plan as assigned.
Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses

High School Diploma, or its equivalent, plus at least one (1) year of experience in Water or Wastewater utility operations or construction; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License, or the ability to obtain within 6 months, with an acceptable driving record.
Certifications and LicensesUtility Operator I: Must obtain a Class II Wastewater Collection License or Class C Water Distribution License within two years of hire.
Utility Operator II: Must possess a Class II Wastewater Collection license or Class C Water Distribution license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Other TCEQ licenses will be considered for equivalency.
Utility Operator III: Must have at least two of the following licenses:
- Class II or Class III Wastewater Collection License
- Class C or B Water Distribution License
- Class C or Class B Surface Water Treatment License
Hiring Ranges:
Utility Operator I: $19.82 to $ 28.53 per hour
Utility Operator II: $21.85 to $31.45 per hour
Utility Operator III: $24.09 to $34.67 per hourKnowledge of:
Basic first aid procedures
Safe operating procedures of equipment used
Skill/Ability to:
Locate water and sewer lines using maps
Repair and maintain water and sewer lines and associated valves and pumps; operate backhoe, dump truck, pump truck, hydrojet, and various hand held tools,
Applying safety standards to prevent hazards
Understand and follow instructions
Make simple mathematical computations
Basic computer knowledge and skills, establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers
Deal effectively with the public in stressful situations
Tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions
Maintain appropriate necessary certifications
Able to lift up to 75 lbs.
